Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Administrative Technician to join the Communication Aid Service East of England (CASEE) for a Band 3 permanent part-time post. The post is for 21 hours (0.56 WTE) per week, with flexible working patterns available for the right candidate, e.g. 10am-2pm 5 days per week or similar.

CASEE is one of 14 regional specialised Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Services commissioned by NHS England to provide a consistent, equitable AAC Service across England and is managed within the CUH Speech and Language Therapy Service.

Our service works closely with local therapy teams to provide a service to children and adults who are eligible for a specialised AAC assessment across the six counties of the East of England.

This is an opportunity to join our specialist multi-professional team comprising Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Advisory Teacher, Rehabilitation Engineer/Healthcare Scientist, technical team and administrative support team. Whilst AAC or assistive technology skills and experience is desirable, we welcome applications from people who have an interest in AAC and who are committed to quickly develop the necessary specialist knowledge and skills.

Individual personal development needs will be identified and supported.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide professional and efficient technical and administrative support to the CASEE team.
  • Main responsibilities include supporting the CASEE team with equipment management, resources and administrative tasks relating to equipment. This includes: storing and keeping a record of equipment in the CASEE office, maintaining the CUH medical equipment database (e-Quip); ensuring equipment returned is decontaminated and cleared; liaising with the medical equipment library, ensuring equipment is ready for visits and supporting the team with resources and administrative tasks.
  • You will also support the team with programming of vocabulary on communication aids and will, alongside clinicians, create communication books and other low-tech resources using a variety of software packages.
  • You will provide general administrative support for the team as required.

Qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.

Desirable:

  • Assistive Technology/ AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication)/ EC (Environmental Controls) qualification or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Experience of working in a busy office environment or warehouse.
  • Experience of prioritising, planning and organising our own tasks.
  • Working with guidelines.
  • Experience of customer service/ or supporting a professional team.
  • Data entry experience.
  • Experience of IT packages – Microsoft Office.
  • High level of ability to organise and manage own time keeping to schedule and deadlines.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
